Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) would create 18,000 new jobs - Senator

Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) - The proposed Train 7 expansion programme of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG, would create 18,000 new jobs, Chairman Senate Committee an Gas, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, has said.

Completion and take off of the expansion project, Akpan stated, will reinforce the Nigerian LNG company’s position as a major player in the global energy market “To achieve this we must sustain our output to be able to maintain profitability,” he said when he led members of his committee on an oversight visit to the NLNG facility on Bonny Island, Rivers State.

He promised that the committee would do all in its power to sustain the NLNG legacy and encourage the entrenchment of the company’s business model in other parts of the Nigerian economy.

“I am particularly happy with what [have seen and heard today, and I will be glad to have your comprehensive presentation slide to share with other members of the Upper Chamber to keep them better informed.

The Senate resisted calls for the sale of government equity in Nigeria LNG because we believe that Nigeria LNG is the most successful oil and gas venture in the country,” Akpan said after NLNG’s General Manager Production, Mr. Tayo Oginni, made a business presentation.

Other members of the 11- member Senate team included Barnabas Gemade, Rose Okoji, Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, DanjumaLaah, Francis Ailmikhena, Matthew Urhogide and Abubakar Moallahyidi.

They all commended the NLNG model and assured the NLNG management of support to promote and sustain the company’s successful operations.
