Field Support Officer at Christian Aid Nigeria

Reports to (Job Title): Food Security and Livelihood Coordinator

Role purpose

  • To contribute to Christian Aid humanitarian program in Borno state and to support the effective implementation of FAO funded Agricultural Livelihood response in Borno state.

Role context

  • The Field Support Officer will perform overall his/her role to carry out all agriculture & Livestock activities under the supervision of Food Security & Livelihood Coordinator.
  • She/he will also coordinate local communities, in close coordination with Food Security and Livelihood Coordinator

Key outcomes

  • Ensure implementation of Agriculture, Livestock & farmer field schools activities defined in the project proposal.
  • Assist in training design, preparation of training module for training especially for agriculture, Livestock and FFS.
  • Write precise report of the activities; weekly & monthly basis;
  • Inform the beneficiaries of the registration procedure.
  • Prepare Distribution and training plans as well as budgeting for trainings.
  • Input and up-date beneficiary data & Prepare lists and distribution cards.
  • Organize and supervise the distribution of Agric. Inputs & Livestock.
  • Intervene in case of dispute;
  • Support the FSL Coordinator working closely with finance department to ensure program materials and payments are made timely.
  • Support regular field visits to ensure quality and timeliness of all activities implemented under his/her purview.
  • Assist in the timely submission of distribution and transport plans to logistic.
  • Ensure expenditure plan for the project and do necessary revisions for FSL coordinator’s approval.
  • In close coordination with finance and Program Manager, manage adherence to donor and CHRISTIAN AID grant compliances at all time.
  • Ensure timely submission of payment requests and supporting documents to logistic and finance and timely payments to vendors.

Other task:

  • Assist in any other related matters necessary for the execution of the project

Role Requirements
Relationships:

  • External: The post holder will be required to work closely with project beneficiaries and their communities.
  • Internal: Works closely with the Project Manager, wider project team, Nigeria country team, humanitarian colleagues and field-based volunteers.

  • The ability to make day to day decisions on issues around field activities to assist in the administration and smooth running of the projects.

  • Analytical skills desirable to perform day to day field support responsibilities.

May have the direct responsibility for developing, coaching and motivating one or more staff, undertakes performance reviews and development of action plans to improve the performance of others, whether staff or volunteers.

Person specification
Applied skills/knowledge and expertise:

Essential

  • B.Sc in Agronomy, Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Crop Science
  • Work experience from the Borno context preferred
  • Experience working in livelihoods and food security humanitarian/recovery context Proven experience in implementing agriculture support programs.
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Knowledge of the context in Northeast Nigeria
  • Fluency in one or more of the national/regional languages (Hausa and Kanuri preferred)

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with the culture of conflict and/or disaster- affected populations, ability to develop respect from a wide range of people and strong ability to communicate effectively on sanitation and hygiene matters.
  • Fluency in the language of the working area (Hausa) is appreciated and the international language used in the humanitarian operation
  • IT competency required Intermediate
