Solution
There are 67 – 37 – 1 = 29 people between Andy and Ali. The probability that the person chosen is standing between them is 29/100 = 0.29 or .29. The answer is (.29).

A printer that can print 1 page in 5 seconds shut down for 3 minute to cool off after every hours of operation. How many minute will the printer take to print 3600 pages?


Use the given information to find the rate of page per hour: 1 page/ 5 sec= 12 pages / minute = 720 pages / hour
, so 3600 pages will take 3600 ÷ 720 = 5 hours or 300 minutes, of
printing time. There will also be 12 minutes (4 × 3 minutes) when the printer is
shut down to cool off, for a total of 312 minutes. Note that there were 5 printing
period and 4 cooling-off periods. The answer is (B).

A jar has 5 marbles, 1 of each of the colors red, white, blue, green, and yellow. If 4 marble are removed from the jar, what is the probability that the yellow marble was removed?


Solution
It is equally likely that any 1 of the 5 marbles will be the one that is not removed.
Therefore the probability that the yellow marble is left is 1/5 , and the probability
that it is removed is 4/5 . The answer is (D).

There are 27 students in Mr. White’s homeroom. What is the probability that at least 3 of them have their birthday in the same month?


If there were no month in which at least 3 students had a birthday, then each month would have the birthday of at mast 2 students. But that’s not possible; even if there were 2 birthday in January, 2 in February, ….., and 2 in December, only 24 student will be accounted for. It is guaranteed that, with more than 24 students, at least one month will have 3 or more birthdays. The probability is 1.
The answer is (E).

In 2003, thanksgiving was on Thursday, November 27, and there are 30 days in November. If one day in November 2003 was chosen at random for a concert, what is the probability that the concert was on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday)?


Since 27 was a Thursday, then 28, 29 and 30 were Friday Saturday and Sunday respectively. Repeatedly subtracting 7, you see that the Saturdays were on November 29, 22, 15 and 1and the Sunday were on November 30, 23, 16, 9, 2 for a total of 10 weekend days. Then 10/30 = 1/3. The answer is 1/3.
