Job Position: Consultant Engineer

Job Locations: Bauchi, Borno and Sokoto
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary


  • To support on-site inspection and evaluation of installation, commissioning, and testing of Photovoltaic solar systems at 371 health facilities across Nigeria to ensure that solarisation work performed by service providers meets UNICEF standards and requirements for quality.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks
Perform on-site inspections related to:

  • Commissioning and operational test of installed solar modules.
  • Compliance with design, standards, environmental permits, etc.
  • Compliance with specifications of solar panels, inverters, batteries, structures, and cabinets as per the brochures provided by the service providers.
  • Quality check of solar modules after installation.
  • Independent review in case of claims and non-compliance disputes (analysis of deviations).
  • Compliance with Terms of Reference (ToR) and Technical Proposals submitted by the service providers.
  • Verification of milestone completion.
  • Verification of accuracy in reports/deliverables submitted by the service providers.

Deliverables:

  • Site Inspection Report, compiling the results of onsite inspection using the inspection template provided by UNICEF for each of the solarised health facilities that the consultant engineers will be assigned for inspection.

Requirements
Education Background:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Renewable Energy Engineering.
  • COREN certification or other internationally recognised certification for a solar installer/engineer is strongly preferred.
  • Expertise with photovoltaic (PV) technology, solar radiation, energy storage and grid integration is a strong advantage.

Language:

  • Fluency in English

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in the solar energy field, particularly on energy assessment, evaluation, site inspection, failure analysis and post installation, commissioning and testing assessment.
  • Proven ability to inspect and evaluate the solar module installation and commissioning in resource-limited settings.
  • Ability to collect and analyse data, effect corrections, and prepare technical reports.
  • Ability to work in an international or multicultural environment. Prior experiences within the UN system are a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good analytical, technical report-writing, and communication skills.
