Emel Hospital Festac Town, Lagos, Nigeria isa multi-specialists’ hospital, situated at 21 Road, Z Close in Festac Town, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Lagos, Nigeria. Emel Hospital is a purpose-built 44 bed hospital situated on a piece of land specially approved for its purpose by the Federal Housing Authority.

Emel Hospital was established in 1988 by Dr. Olufemi Mobolaji-Lawal, a consultant paediatrician. Dr. Mobolaji-Lawal trained as a doctor at the University College Hospital, Ibadan and as a paediatrician in the United Kingdom. Prior to setting Emel Hospital, he worked for some time as consultant paediatrician at Ikeja General Hospital (now Lagos State University Teaching Hospital), Lagos. He is the board chairman and his wife, Dr. (Mrs) Margaret Mobolaji-Lawal is a non-executive director.

The hospital was declared open on the 9th of December 1988 by the then Honorable Minister of Health of Nigeria, Prof. Olikoye Ransome-Kuti. It is the first private hospital in Lagos, Nigeria to be designated “Baby Friendly Hospital” by the Federal Ministry of Health in 1993. We are a well-recognized and foremost pediatric referral centre in Amuwo Odofin area and its environs, as well as providing general medical care and specialist services in obstetrics and gynaecology, internal medicine and various surgical specialities.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Position: Human Resources Manager

Job Location: Festac, Lagos

Job Purpose

  • The Human Resources (HR) Manager will lead and oversee the HR function at Emel Hospital, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with labor laws.
  • The role will focus on strategic HR management, policy formulation, talent acquisition, employee engagement, and organizational development, while supervising the HR team, including the Senior HR Officer.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic HR Management:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with Emel Hospital’s mission, vision, and operational goals.
  • Advise hospital leadership on HR policies, workforce planning, and talent management initiatives.
  • Lead organizational change initiatives, workforce restructuring, and HR transformation projects.

Talent Acquisition and Retention:

  • Oversee recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes for all staff levels.
  • Implement retention strategies, including career development, succession planning, and employee engagement programs.
  • Ensure the hospital attracts and retains top talent across clinical and non-clinical functions.

Performance Management:

  • Design and manage performance appraisal systems, KPIs, and evaluation processes.
  • Support department heads in setting performance standards and achieving departmental goals.
  • Drive continuous employee development through training, coaching, and mentorship programs.

HR Policies and Compliance:

  • Develop, review, and enforce HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, healthcare regulations, and internal policies.
  • Handle employee relations issues, grievances, and disciplinary actions in line with best practices.

Compensation and Benefits Management:

  • Oversee payroll administration, benefits, and incentive programs.
  • Benchmark compensation and benefits to maintain competitiveness in the healthcare sector.
  • Provide recommendations on remuneration adjustments, promotions, and rewards.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Supervise and mentor HR staff, including the Senior HR Officer.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the HR department.
  • Conduct regular HR audits and provide leadership with insights on workforce trends and challenges.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in healthcare or large organizations.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., CIPM, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of labour laws, HR best practices, and healthcare regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in HR Managementsoftware and Microsoft Office Suite.
