Job Position: Finance Assistant

Position Description


  1. The Finance Assistant is responsible for a full range of cash management duties, vendor payment processing, receipt of collection and the reconciliation of financial transaction.
  2. The scope of the position includes but is not limited to assisting with entering local transactions in accounting software, running monthly reports, monitoring receivables and payables, and ensuring adequate cash balances.
  3. This position will be based in Abuja. Travel to the government and communities in the state might be required.

Reporting & Supervision:
The Finance Assistant reports to the Finance Director in Abuja.

Primary Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Apply internationally accepted accounting principles and procedures to analysing financial information and prepare accurate and timely financial reports.
  2. Ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.
  3. Assistant in monitoring cash balances, prepare advance account reconciliations and bank reconciliations.
  4. Assist in Coordinating program and administrative staff to ensure transactions are properly coded.
  5. Maintain a good system of records.
  6. Communicate information in a way that demonstrates a basic understanding of development assistance work, project culture, values, and practices.
  7. Perform other tasks, as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Accounting and Finance, Economics or Business Administration
  2. 2 years’ experience in accounting, bookkeeping and/or cashiering work.
  3. Experience with computerized accounting systems is required.
  4. Strong analytical skills and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  5. Multi-tasking with positive attitude is required.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain effective, sustainable relationships with project staff and bank officials, as well as the development community is required.
  7. Prior experience with international organizations or international-funded projects is highly desirable.
  8. Experience working in a conflict environment is a plus.
  9. Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  10. Fluency in one or more of the local state languages in the North Eastern part of Nigeria is required.
