Overview

• Cooper Platform have been subcontracted as lead on strategic communication development & dissemination for a security sector development project and now seeking to engage an individual consultant as Media Officer to support the Lead Consultant and Programme Officer in the management and delivery of the project assignments.

Job Summary

• The Media Officer, working in close conjunction with the Lead Consultant and Programme Officer will support the development and dissemination of communication materials on traditional and new media.
• Specifically providing mentorship to stakeholders on dissemination of communication materials on social media, guidance on implementation strategies, provides expert reporting, analytics, and advice to increase visibility.
• The job holder will monitor, and report mentions in traditional media and social media presence.

Essential Functions

• Contributes to content development of communication tools for dissemination by stakeholders and provide expert advice.
• Supervise the work of vendors for production of communication materials and tools to be used for the project strategic communication approaches.
• Research social media communication trends, best practices, policies, procedures, and accessibility for potential opportunities to support the project assignments.
• Responsible for the coordination and dissemination of communication materials to media houses, monitor placements and liaise with them for the collection of certificates of transmission.
• Monitor, review, and analyse comments and conversations on selected stakeholder social media sites/handles, e.g., Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.
• Carryout regular media monitoring, evaluation and reporting on all campaigns in traditional and social media.
• Manage and maintain the organisation’s social media handle by creatively syndicating all projects messages on the various accounts for wider visibility.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, English, Graphics or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications and digital media, in publishing or media outlet, at a PR agency, or NGO setting.
• Excellent writing skills — experience writing and editing op-eds, blogs, press releases, videos, and content for communication campaign.
• Strong media relations background and experience working with press as well as new media.
• Strong skills working in diverse teams and across many types of organizations.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including editing skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Limited Travel to production locations.
