Pharmacist

Job Summary 

Reviews the medication orders and consults with physicians for medicine present on the formulary. Controls the preparation of the medications and ensures proper delivery to patients’ units.

Key Responsibilities


  • Prepare medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders; detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.   
  • Control medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions  
  • Complete pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians’ work flow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.                              
  • Provide pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals; counseling patients on drug therapies.                               
  • Comply with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by monitoring nursing unit inspections
  • Maintain records for controlled substances; remove outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory
  • Supervise the work results of support personnel; maintain current registration; study existing and new legislation; anticipate legislation; advise management on needed actions.  
  • Protect patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations

Minimum Requirement

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in pharmacy plus specialization in hospital pharmacy. The BS should be licensed from Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in hospital Pharmacy.
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Computer literate
