Job Position: Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality (SHERQ) Officer

Job Location: Lagos

Job Function

  • To support the implementation and continual improvement of the MDS QHSE management systems in accordance with ISO standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations in transportation and warehousing operations.

Key Performance Areas

  • Support and monitor compliance with ISO standards and customer quality requirements.
  • Support in conducting internal audits and inspections on warehouse and transport processes.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining SOPs, work instructions, and forms.
  • Track and report non-conformities; support corrective/preventive actions.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Identify and assess workplace hazards (risk assessments, JSAs).
  • Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and training sessions where necessary.
  • Maintain records for workplace incidents, injuries, and interventions.
  • Support environmental compliance and MDS ESG Strategies implementation.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental protection procedures (ISO 14001).
  • Ensure compliance with national HSE laws and transport safety regulations.
  • Maintain documentation and reports for audits, inspections, and GEMBA Walk.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies as needed (e.g., FRSC, Ministry of Labour).
  • Maintain QHSE databases, logs, and dashboards.
  • Share monthly/quarterly SHERQ performance data for reports.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs), such as the leading and lagging indicators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or HND in Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • ISPON Membership.
  • HSE Level 2 & 3.
  • NEBOSH IGC is an added advantage.
  • ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001.

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a QHSE role, preferably in transport and warehouse operations.
  • Experience in advocating for and ensuring compliance with safety standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of security protocols and emergency preparedness.
