Job Description
- We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Legal Manager to join our esteemed team.
- As a pivotal member of our organization, you will play a critical role in providing expert legal counsel, ensuring compliance with regulations, and safeguarding our company's interests within the ever-evolving maritime sector.
Responsibilities
- Legal Expertise: Utilize your extensive legal knowledge and in-depth understanding of the maritime, shipping, and logistics industry to provide strategic advice and guidance to the executive team and stakeholders.
- Dispute Resolution: Lead and manage dispute resolution efforts, including negotiations, mediation, and litigation when necessary. Collaborate with external legal counsel as required.
- Corporate Governance: Ensure compliance with corporate governance principles, internal policies, and industry best practices, fostering a culture of ethical conduct and responsibility.
- Contract Management: Oversee the drafting, reviewing, and negotiation of various agreements, contracts, and legal documents, including those related to shipping, cargo handling, logistics, and international trade.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with national and international laws, regulations, and conventions governing the maritime industry, ensuring the company's adherence and mitigating potential legal risks.
- Risk Management: Identify legal risks and propose effective risk mitigation strategies, thereby protecting the company's assets, reputation, and operations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain positive relationships with government agencies, industry associations, and other relevant bodies to influence policy and advocacy efforts beneficial to the company.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B) from a reputable university. Additional relevant qualifications will be advantageous.
- Extensive experience (11-13 years) in the maritime, shipping, and logistics industry, with a strong track record of providing legal counsel and handling complex legal matters.
- Admittance to the Nigerian Bar Association and a current practicing license.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with the ability to lead and mentor a legal team effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset.
- Proven expertise in drafting and negotiating contracts, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance specific to the maritime sector.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Adept at working in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple priorities, and meeting deadlines.
- Familiarity with international maritime conventions and protocols is highly desirable.
