Technical Director (Abuja)


Abt Associates, a global leader in technical assistance, program implementation, and research, seeks qualified candidates for an upcoming USAID-funded reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) project in Nigeria. Working closely with state level governments in the Northeast, Northwest, and South, the project will focus on service delivery in family planning, malaria, immunization, nutrition, and maternal and newborn health. The project will work across the country and tailor itself to individual state and Local Government Area (LGA) levels. The position is contingent upon project award and funding, anticipated in summer of 2016.

Job Description

  • Responsible for technical oversight of malaria treatment and prevention activities.
  • Collaborates effectively with national, state and local government agencies and officials; local and community organizations; and other partners to support activities essential to malaria prevention and treatment in Niger.
  • Contributes to the strategy for and oversees the implementation of the project’s activities including malaria in pregnancy, case management, and health systems strengthening.
  • Provides general technical and leadership support to national agencies in malaria case management, including developing case management tools and participating in technical working groups.

Qualifications

  • Medical Degree, DVM or MPH/PhD.
  • Strong background in malaria in pregnancy, case management, and/or malaria epidemiology preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience implementing malaria projects in developing countries.
  • Ability to independently plan and execute complex technical tasks while addressing daily management details and remaining organized and focused on long-term deadlines and strategy.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of a master's degree in a relevant discipline, prior donor-funded experience related to health, and an outstanding professional
