Explore Humanitarian Aid Initiative (Explore Aid) is an independent, registered non-governmental, nonprofit civil society organization based in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. Our mission is to empower marginalized and vulnerable communities through evidence-based humanitarian and development interventions. We work across sectors including maternal and child health, WASH, education, nutrition, GBV, and economic empowerment. Our strategy centers on research-driven service delivery, community engagement, and sustainable development.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Position: Media and Publicity Volunteer


Job Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time (Flexible based on availability)

Role Summary

  • The Media and Publicity Officer will manage all aspects of Explore Aid’s communications, branding, and media engagement. 
  • This includes developing multimedia content, managing social media platforms, documenting field activities, and coordinating with media outlets to enhance the visibility and reputation of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to promote the organization’s work and core values.
  • Write, edit, and publish high-quality content including newsletters, articles, donor briefs, and case studies.
  • Maintain and grow Explore Aid’s digital presence on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Capture high-quality photos and videos during project implementation for reporting, visibility, and advocacy.
  • Produce short videos and documentaries showcasing project impact and beneficiary stories.
  • Ensure branding compliance in all communication materials in line with donor guidelines and organizational identity.
  • Monitor media trends, track analytics, and report on digital engagement and outreach performance.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local media houses and journalists.
  • Prepare talking points, press kits, and key messages for media interviews and advocacy events.
  • Train staff on effective communication, media handling, and documentation practices.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in media, communications, or content development.
  • Proficient in graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Suite) and video editing software.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
  • Good photography and videography skills.

Preferably:

  • Experience working in a humanitarian or development context.
  • Ability to speak local languages including Hausa and Kanuri.
  • Prior experience in handling NGO media strategy.
