Background


  • In Nigeria today, children continue to face barriers to accessing and achieving a quality basic education
  • The Project will continue to address this challenge, reaching hundreds of primary and junior secondary schools and communities and increasing the quality of education and boys and girls enrollment, attendance learning, retention and transition.

General Description of the Role

  • Under the supervision of the implementing partner in Lagos and HQ with support from the project team in Kano, the Accountant is expected to deliver a high quality financial reports.

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all Accounting/Finance functions and activities of the Kano Office
  • Coordinate/Review all payments to vendors for accuracy contractual price and adequate supporting documents
  • Ensure that the procurement of goods and services is done as per organization policy
  • Monitor advances in line with approvals obtained and ensure they are promptly retired; review all advances retired
  • Ensure accurate filing of all cash receipts and payments
  • Prepare bank reconciliation statement in excel format and QuickBooks
  • Monitor purchases in line with approvals obtained and cost justifications
  • Liaise with the office of Senior Finance/Admin Officer (Lagos Office)
  • Ensure that regular reports on financial activities of the project office are well produced timely
  • Maintain confidentiality of organization financial information and others to any party except you are authorised to do so
  • Ensure verbal approval are supported with an email before processing such transaction(s)
  • Ensure submission of monthly report to Lagos office on or before 5th day of the month for review
  • Support Logistics/Procurement Officer and Procurement Committee
  • Attend Operational meetings (where necessary).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Economics, and Finance or other related discipline
  • Must have minimum of 5 years cognate experience preferably in development sector (NGO)
  • Must have excellent financial, communication, analytical, writing, presentation organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Must be proficient in the use of MS office package, innovative and creative
  • Use of QuickBooks is compulsorily.
