Job Description
- The General Manager (GM) will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all farm activities, ensuring optimal productivity, profitability, and sustainability.
- The GM will lead cross-functional teams across crop production, livestock, agronomy, logistics, and processing while driving innovation and continuous improvement across the value chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute short and long-term strategic plans for farm operations and expansion.
- Oversee daily operations, including Cassava cultivation, irrigation systems, equipment, and labor.
- Lead and supervise department heads across production, Finance, People, Talent, Procurement, and Logistics.
- Implement sustainable farming techniques and modern agricultural technologies (e.g., precision farming, mechanization).
- Collaborate with R&D teams to improve yields and develop high-value crops.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Develop and manage budgets, cost control systems, and P&L accountability.
- Build strategic partnerships with suppliers, off-takers, government agencies, and investors.
- Foster a performance-driven culture and mentor mid-level managers and field staff.
- Report progress to the CEO and board on KPIs, risks, and new business opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agribusiness, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in commercial agriculture, including 5+ years in a general management or operations director role.
- Proven track record in managing large-scale farm operations (ideally >500 hectares).
- Strong business acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
- Knowledge of modern farming practices, supply chain systems, and ag-tech.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, result-oriented, and culturally diverse environment.
- Familiarity with Nigerian and West African agricultural policies, climates, and challenges.
