Job Summary


  • UNICEF Nigeria Health Section is supporting the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC) in its efforts to bolster local production of health commodities in Nigeria.
  • The Health Consultant is crucial for supporting the Ecosystem Financing, Demand and Procurement Consolidation workstream within the Healthcare Partnership and Ecosystem Enablement team. This role is essential for spearheading initiatives to
  • strengthen the domestic healthcare sector, focusing on both financing and demand/procurement strategies.
  • The position will enhance the overall efficiency and financial sustainability of the healthcare system, thereby supporting PVAC's goals of improving local healthcare capabilities, reducing costs through procurement consolidation, and ensuring sustainable financing.
  • Additionally, this role will contribute to the overall activities of PVAC by driving
  • strategic initiatives that align with national health security and economic development objectives, fostering a robust and self-sufficient healthcare ecosystem.

Job Details
Main Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies to improve demand aggregation and forecasting for essential medical products and services
    across the Nigerian healthcare system.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies to increase access to financing for various stakeholders within the Nigerian healthcare
    ecosystem, including healthcare providers, entrepreneurs, and R&D institutions.
  • Facilitate collaboration between public and private healthcare providers to consolidate procurement efforts, leading to increased efficiency and cost
    savings.
  • Analyze market trends and identify opportunities for bulk purchasing of essential medical products and equipment to leverage economies of scale.
  • Develop and manage programs to improve transparency and accountability within the healthcare procurement process in Nigeria.
  • Identify and analyze various financing mechanisms relevant to the Nigerian healthcare sector, such as grants, loans, impact investing, and public-
    private partnerships.
  • Collaborate with financial institutions, development partners, and other stakeholders to develop innovative financing models for the healthcare sector.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of ecosystem financing, demand and procurement consolidation initiatives

Deliverables

  • Monthly progress reports on the implementation and impact of financing, demand, and procurement consolidation initiatives.
  • Development and maintenance of a stakeholder engagement database, ensuring up-to-date contact information and interaction logs.

Requirements
Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Pharmacy, Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, Medicine, Public Health,
    or a related field.

Language:

  • English

Work experience:

  • 0 to 3 years of experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical, engineering, finance, medical device industry, with a focus on business development, investment, or product management.
  • Good understanding of the Nigerian healthcare system, particularly the regulatory environment for pharmaceuticals and medical consumables.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and presentation skills.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with external stakeholders.
