About the job


  • The Internal Auditor is responsible for the organizations strategic risk-based Internal Audit plan and managing the Internal Audit function in accordance with the organizations Internal Audit charter and the professional standards for Internal Audit by providing reasonable assurance on the effectiveness of the organization’s risk management and the strength of internal controls.
  • The role will also be saddled with the responsibility of assessing the company’s risk and the efficacy of its risk management while ensuring that the company is complying with relevant laws and statutes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop annually a risk-based Internal Audit plan for Audit Committee review and approval.
  • Oversee the implementation of the approved plan, ensure proper resourcing for implementation of the plan, and adjust the plan as needed in response to changes in the organization’s business risks, operations, programs, systems and controls.
  • Remain current on audit and regulatory oversight trends and develop a risk based approach incorporated into the annual audit plan.
  • Perform organization-wide risk assessments to identify significant risks or exposure related to internal controls or compliance with the organizations policies and procedures, laws and regulations, regulatory requirements, efficiency of operations, and accuracy of programmatic and financial reporting.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations on business risks and improving operational efficiencies and processes where appropriate.
  • Direct the work of external auditors on select audits, as directed by the Audit Committee and senior management, to ensure the audit work remains within the prescribed guidelines.
  • Keep senior management and Audit Committee apprised of any changes needed to the Internal Audit plan.
  • Ensure methodical documentation of work plans, testing results, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ensure follow up on findings and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical assistance with investigations, special audits, and provide subject matter expertise as needed.
  • Coordinate and assist with the preparation of Audit Committee materials and participate in quarterly or more frequent Audit Committee meetings.
  • Investigate and report to the Audit Committee on activity reported through the organizations Hotline/Whistleblower processes and assist in investigations.
  • Recommend organization-wide training based on gaps identified to ensure adherence to the organizations practices and policies. Stay abreast of emerging trends and successful practices in Internal Audit related to the Capital and Technology space
  • Work closely with the all SBUs and Afriprud‘s senior leadership team to overhaul the company’s digital channels, implement its control management frameworks complementary to, and supportive of the business transformation mandate.
  • Incorporate audit and internal control considerations into strategic decision-making and product/solution development lifecycle and ensure alignment between business strategies of line management and the Company’s audit policy.
  • Responsible for risk assessments concerning processes, asset(s) and ISMS Controls within the organization
  • Establish and assign departmental goals to team members and evaluate their performance.
  • Responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing career paths for direct reports.
  • Recommend relevant sanctions and penalties for the approval of the MD, based on outcomes of compliance checks.
  • Continually review the Company’s processes, policies and procedures, and proffer recommendations and updates, in line with best practices.
  • Review any new contracts or internal business proposals to ensure control measures are adequate.
  • To work closely with Risk ERM, legal counsel, and various branches and departments in identifying, defining, and remediating various control-related issues in attaining established compliance goals as directed by the Board of Directors and Senior Management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting & Finance or other closely related field and Professional Certification in Accounting.
  • 10 or more years of experience in Auditing or Accounting; with a minimum of 3 years in a Management role with Board interface.
  • ACCA or ACA, Risk Management or Fraud Management.
