Job Position: Procurement Specialist

Job Location: Apapa, Lagos

Job Description


  • Our client is seeking to engage a qualified Procurement Specialist. The Procurement Specialist will be responsible for managing the procurement process, from sourcing and selecting suppliers to negotiating contracts and ensuring timely delivery of goods and services.
  • The ultimate goal is to ensure the company obtains high-quality goods and services at the most favorable terms and prices while maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sourcing: Conduct market research, identify potential suppliers, and evaluate their capabilities and pricing.
  • Negotiations: Prepare and negotiate procurement contracts to ensure favorable terms and conditions.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Work with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements.
  • Strategy: Develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure cost-effectiveness and value for money.
  • Record-keeping: Maintain accurate records of procurement transactions and pricing.
  • Delivery: Ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Supplier Management: Monitor and report on the performance of suppliers.
  • Compliance: Stay up-to-date with market trends and changes in regulations affecting procurement and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.

Education / Knowledge and Experience

  • At least an HND / Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in procurement, ideally in a clearing and forwarding company.
  • Knowledge of Nigerian customs regulations and import/export procedures.
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience within the Logistic Industry (3PL Firm).
  • Relevant Professional Qualification is an added advantage.

Skills and Other Requirements:

  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Team player at executive levels to collaborate with business units and functional partners like IT, Finance, Marketing, Operations, HR, Legal, etc.
  • Solid operational management and general business skills and savvy.
  • Working knowledge of finance and/or accounting in terms of budgeting, cost management, financial accounting, treasury, risk management, etc.
  • Experience with modern sourcing and procurement strategy and systems.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, as well as understanding of standard contractual terms and conditions to mitigate legal risk.
  • Strategic mindset and problem-solving skills.
  • Industry knowledge in terms of broad industry dynamics on the buy-side (and the sell-side), but also the internal knowledge and "language of the business."
  • Excellent communication skills and even better listening skills that allow the procurement manager to get the "voice of the internal customer" and to understand the company culture and how to best communicate procurement's value to it.
  • In-depth knowledge of sourcing and procurement principles and best practices.
  • Strong negotiation skills to use for large commercial deals.
  • Analytical mindset, but also creativity to seek, encourage, and find non-traditional approaches that have historically "boxed-in" procurement.
  • Knowledge of incoterms and HS Code Classifications Rules.

Personality Profile:

  • An experienced individual who is an independent self-starter with excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with an above-average level of knowledge of the IMPEX process.
