Explore Humanitarian Aid Initiative (Explore Aid) is an independent, registered non-governmental, nonprofit civil society organization based in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Position: Procurement Volunteer (Field-Focused)
Job Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Employment Type: Volunteer (with travel and logistics support provided)

Role Summary

  • The Procurement Volunteer will support field-level procurement operations, including market assessments, vendor sourcing, logistics, and compliance with Explore Aid’s procurement policy. 
  • The role demands adaptability, resilience, and willingness to travel to remote and sometimes insecure areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct local market surveys to identify reliable suppliers and ensure fair pricing.
  • Assist in collecting quotations, preparing comparative bid analysis, and documentation of procurement decisions.
  • Ensure procurement processes are aligned with Explore Aid’s policies and donor regulations.
  • Follow up on orders and deliveries, ensuring timely receipt of goods and services in the field.
  • Build positive relationships with local vendors and negotiate favorable terms where appropriate.
  • Identify procurement risks in field operations and escalate where necessary.
  • Support the tagging, distribution, and inventory documentation of procured items.
  • Keep procurement logs updated and assist with monthly reporting on field procurements.
  • Coordinate local transport arrangements for goods and personnel when required.
  • Work closely with program teams to understand procurement needs and plan accordingly.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum OND in Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • Excellent knowledge of local markets in Borno and willingness to travel extensively.
  • Good negotiation, record keeping, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain a high degree of accuracy.
  • Must be based in or familiar with Maiduguri and surrounding LGAs.

Preferably:

  • Experience working with NGOs in field procurement.
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle or drive (with valid license).
  • Familiarity with Kanuri or Hausa.
