Job Description


  • We seek talented and passionate Climate Writers/Reporters to join our team.
  • The ideal candidate is interested in environmental issues, climate change, and sustainability. They will research, investigate, write, and report on climate-related topics for various platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Research climate-related issues, trends, and developments, both locally and globally.
  • Write and produce compelling and informative articles, news stories, features, and reports on climate change, environmental sustainability, and related topics.
  • Stay informed about current events, policies, and initiatives related to climate change and environmental issues.
  • Monitor and analyse climate science, technology, policy, and advocacy developments to inform reporting.
  • Conduct interviews with experts, stakeholders, and community members to gather information and insights for stories.
  • Collaborate with editors and other team members to develop story ideas, angles, and approaches.
  • Follow journalistic standards and ethics in fact-checking, verifying sources, and ensuring accuracy and fairness in reporting.
  • Adapt writing style and tone to different audiences and platforms, including website articles, blog posts, social media, and newsletters.
  • Meet deadlines and deliver high-quality content in a fast-paced environment.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Timely delivery of high-quality written content, including articles, reports, and news stories.
  • Engagement metrics, including page views, shares, comments, and reader feedback.
  • The accuracy and credibility of reporting are verified through fact-checking and source attribution.
  • Audience growth reach and readership of Climate Action Africa's content.
  • Contribution to organisational goals, such as raising awareness, influencing policy, and driving action on climate change issues.

Required Profile

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in journalism, writing, or reporting, with a portfolio of published work.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and effectively.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in digital tools and writing, editing, and content management platforms.
  • Knowledge of climate science, environmental policy, and sustainability issues.
  • Ability to conduct research, interviews, and fact-checking to gather information and verify sources.
  • Familiarity with AP style, journalistic standards, and ethical guidelines.
  • Commitment to Climate Action Africa's mission and values.
