Legal Officer

Job Objective

The Legal Officer is responsible for providing expert legal advice and management of the company secretariat in line with best practice, monitor strict compliance with the corporate governance codes of the regulatory agencies as well as oversee all contracts and SLA’s.

Duties and responsibilities


  1. Actively provide corporate/commercial legal advice for the Group and its subsidiary companies to support their operations.
  2. Drafting of contracts and Service Level Agreements for the Group and respective subsidiary companies.
  3. Carryout all CAC registrations for the company and follow up to ensure that Company documentations are valid and up to date to meet all statutory requirements.
  4. To monitor and ensure annual returns are filed timely for of all companies with CAC
  5. To actively participate in business engagements where legal matters, constitutional matters and regulatory matters are a concern, this may involve attending meetings on behalf of the Group of companies or may be in the form of advisory where memos or other print or electronic materials may suffice.
  6. Review of existing Service Level Agreement to ensure compliance from the company and the clients.
  7. Ensure company SLAs are stored safely and in a manner that provide easy retrieval.
  8. Writing of correspondences to clients on behalf of the company.
  9. Provide support to the Debt Recovery Unit of the Finance Department in recovery of debts from clients
  10. Perform due diligence review on various real estate documents, including ground leases and title deeds with a high level of detail.
  11. Handle all litigation issues that involves the company or anyone acting on behalf of the company.
  12. Must be familiar with the Nigeria Laws and their application; including labour law.
  13. Participate in contract law as it relates to our international clients, vendors, distributors or vendors.
  14. Perform company secretarial duties and other duties incidental to the position.

 

Education, Skills & Competencies required

  1. LLB, BL Legal Studies with 3-5 years’ experience in Company Law
  2. Must be adept at problem-solving, including being able to identify issues and resolve problems in a timely manner
  3. Must possess strong interpersonal skills
  4. Must be able to communicate clearly, both written and orally, as to communicate with employees, members of the HR team, and in group presentations and meetings
  5. Must be able to effectively read and interpret information, present numerical data in a resourceful manner, and skillfully gather and analyze information
  6. Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities as to use time efficiently
  7. Must be organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality
  8. Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and must be able to improve performance through management feedback
