Job Summary

  • The System Engineer is responsible for carrying out agreed operational procedures, including infrastructure configuration, installation and maintenance.
  • They are expected to provide application maintenance and support services, either directly to users of the systems or to service delivery functions.
  • Provide network maintenance and support services. Plan, control and management of all the facilities which, collectively, make up the IT estate, resolve (both reactive and proactive) problems throughout the information system lifecycle, including classification, prioritization and initiation of action, documentation of root causes and implementation of remedies to prevent future incidents.

Roles and Responsibilities
Internal IT:

  • Systems administration: Responsible for the management of computer systems (Database and Infrastructure) and needs. This includes the planning, development, installation, configuration, maintenance, support, and optimization of all computer systems.
  • Network Administration: Designing and planning the network, setting up the network, maintaining the network and Expanding the network.
  • Assist in Desktop Support: Responsible for resolving problems with users PC's.

API and Integration Responsibilities

  • Assist in configuration and testing of API gateways.
  • Train the teams on how to setup and use API’s
  • Assist the development team in diagnosing API related incidents and events.

Managed Services Responsibilities:

  • Provide the following services to client and ensure availability
  • Database administration and maintenance services
  • Manage Alfresco DMS environment
  • Manage WebLogic Application Servers
  • Infrastructure Monitoring and Maintenance
  • Linux Systems Administration
  • OBIEE and ODI System Administration

Support Responsibilities:

  • Assist the support team in diagnosis and operational incidents and events.
  • Take responsibility for understanding client infrastructure requirements, collecting data, delivering analysis and problem resolution.
  • Identify, evaluates and recommend options, implementing if required.
  • Collaborate with, and facilitate stakeholder group, as part of formal or informal consultancy agreement.

Presales Responsibilities:

  • Assist Sales team in the preparation, presentation, demonstration and sale of TurnQuest applications and services.
  • Assist in RFP Response
  • Assist in setup of Demo Machines and Conferencing Facilities (Hangout, Skype)

Supplier Relationship Management Responsibilities:

  • Influences policy and procedures covering the selection of suppliers, tendering and procurement, promoting good practice in third party management with respect to IT systems.

Project Management:

  • Assists project management to establish necessary infrastructure to manage projects.

Development, QA and Testing Responsibilities:

  • Assist Development, QA and Testing in creating testing environments.
  • Other Duties
  • Performing any other duties delegated by the CTO or CEO

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • 2 or more years of system engineering/system administration experience working with fast-paced and dynamic system/IT teams

Skills and Competencies:

  • Good time manager, able to juggle numerous tasks simultaneously to meet project deadlines.
  • Planning Skills, schedule and monitor his own work within short time horizons.
  • Experience in key areas such as DevOps (Jenkins Pipelines, Gerrit), Database Migrations (Flyway), Linux System Administration, Cloud Ops (AWS, Oracle Cloud), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), and Configuration Management (SaltStack).

Operations/Systems Engineering experience including the following is helpful:

  • Systems administration skills, especially with Linux Operating Systems.
  • Strong administration of Nginx, Weblogic, Iptables, Load Balancers.
  • Strong knowledge of network security and performance.
  • Strong understanding of Dev/Ops mentality and tools.
  • Ability to quickly analyze and comprehend new or unfamiliar technologies or ideas.
  • Knowledge of compliance frameworks (PCI, SOX, SOC 2, ISO 27001).
  • Strong scripting proficiency in bash (shell), Python, and/or other languages.
  • Database administration background in Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, and MSSQL.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker and Kafka a plus
