We are a self-help organisation. Our primary goal is to improve access to credit for entrepreneurship and investment, as well as providing financial assistance for emergency expenses. We aim to help members save, invest, and grow their wealth with an emphasis on saving.

Job Position: Account Officer

Position Summary


  • As our Accountant, you’ll be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring compliance with cooperative-specific regulations, and supporting the financial stability and growth of the organization.
  • This role is perfect for someone with strong financial acumen, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for cooperative values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate financial statements in line with cooperative bylaws and relevant accounting standards (e.g., IFRS).
  • Cooperative Accounting: Handle unique cooperative financial activities like patronage dividends, share capital, member loans, and contributions.
  • Accounting Software Management: Use platforms like QuickBooks, Sage, or cooperative-specific tools to manage payroll, budgets, invoicing, and member transactions.
  • Internal Controls & Auditing: Maintain sound financial controls and prepare for periodic internal/external audits.
  • Member Communication: Translate financial data into clear reports and updates for non-financial cooperative members.
  • Budgeting & Planning: Develop budgets, monitor cash flow, and provide strategic financial advice to support the cooperative’s goals.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with tax laws and cooperative regulations; prepare required documentation for audits and regulatory bodies.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and organized financial records, including member investments, loans, and dividends.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with other departments to align financial strategies with broader organizational objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional Certification preferred: CPA, CA, or similar.
  • Minimum [X] years of experience in a finance/accounting role, preferably within a cooperative or nonprofit organization.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software and tools.
  • Solid understanding of cooperative accounting principles.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of local tax laws and cooperative regulations.
