Job Description
- Our client is seeking a highly skilled, knowledgeable, and experienced Head of News and Current Affairs to join their prestigious television network.
- You will be responsible for overseeing and leading the production and delivery of high-quality news and current affairs programming.
- This is a pivotal role that requires exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of the media landscape.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction and guidance for the news and current affairs department, ensuring the highest standards of journalistic integrity, accuracy, and impartiality.
- Oversee the production and on-air presentation of news bulletins, public affairs programs, and other relevant content across various platforms.
- Stay abreast of national and international news developments, identifying relevant stories and angles to provide comprehensive coverage to our viewers.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, industry experts, and community leaders.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and ethical standards, while promoting diversity and inclusivity in news reporting.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement long-term plans, goals, and policies for the department.
- Manage and mentor a team of talented journalists and production staff, providing clear direction, training, and support to ensure optimal performance.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, leveraging digital tools and technologies to enhance news-gathering, production, and delivery.
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate cross-functional projects and initiatives.
- Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively, ensuring efficient allocation and utilization.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a senior editorial role within a reputable news organization, with a focus on news and current affairs.
- Exceptional understanding of broadcast journalism principles, techniques, and standards.
- Proficiency in leveraging digital tools and platforms for news gathering and dissemination.
- Sound judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully managing and inspiring teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- In-depth knowledge of the Nigerian media landscape, current affairs, and cultural nuances.
- A passion for journalism, a commitment to journalistic ethics, and a dedication to delivering high-quality content to our audience.
Salary
N500,000 / month.
