WaterAid is an international non-for-profit organization dedicated to helping people break free from poverty and disease, unlock their potential and change their lives for good through improved access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. WaterAid started its operation in Nigeria in 1995. Since then it has successfully executed several intervention programmes as outlined by its objectives and has made impact in the lives of the very poor. WaterAid with the country office in Abuja currently works in Bauchi, Enugu and Plateau States with funding from various donors and partners.

We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:

1.) Bid Manager


Job Location: Nigeria
Job Type: Full-time

About the Role

  • As the Bid Manager in the Bid Management Team, you will support the development of winning proposals to deliver strong growth in our restricted funding pipeline.
  • In this role, you will work with key stakeholders, including staff in Country Programmes, Finance Teams, Regional Funding Managers and external partners to develop high-quality bids for opportunities with institutional and non-institutional donors that act like institutions.
  • This includes bilateral and multilateral donors (e.g. FCDO, GAC, USAID, EU, World Bank), as well as some work with trusts and foundations.

You'll Also

  • Support the project design process
  • Work with country finance teams to build and review project budgets that reflect the technical design
  • Negotiate WaterAid's scope of work and budget with external partners
  • Facilitate After Action Reviews to ensure lessons are captured
  • Design and deliver training to strengthen capacity of colleagues in Country Programmes and regional teams in proposal development

About You

  • Experience developing winning proposals to a range of institutional and non-institutional funders, ideally for development projects in low-income countries
  • Good understanding of proposal management best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to negotiate and influence
  • Experience analysing financial data and developing proposal budgets
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

2.) Global IT Operations Manager

Job Location: Abuja
Job Type: Full-time

About the Role

  • Manage a team of IT professionals, providing guidance, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities whilst creating a sense of teamwork by pulling together colleagues with differing skillsets and expertise.
  • Implement processes for tracking procurement, deployment, maintenance, and retirement of all IT assets including hardware, software, and licenses. This will require collaboration with our managed service provider.
  • Act as the ITSM tool global administrator, assisting country program offices with maintenance, support, access, development of processes & training.
  • Develop, update, and enforce IT policies and procedures in alignment with industry standards and organisational goals.
  • Provide oversight and leadership to the Global IT Operations team to ensure a high-quality service is delivered that meets the needs of the stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain a centralised knowledge base repository containing technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, best practices, and user manuals.
  • Ensure that IT policies are communicated effectively to all relevant stakeholders and are consistently followed.
  • Evaluate and implement automation tools and technologies to streamline repetitive tasks, improve efficiency, and reduce human error.
  • Develop technical relationships with key suppliers and business partners.
  • Manage the IT departments hub on the internal intranet platform, ensuring that it provides up-to-date information, news, and resources to employees.
  • Oversee the transition of completed IT projects from the internal IT operations team, with potential collaboration from 3rd parties to the MSP service delivery team.
  • Collaborate with the finance department to code, integrate, and maintain IT-related financial transactions in the organisation's financial systems ensuring accurate allocation of costs, budgets, and expenses related to IT operations.
  • Ensure that project handover agreements are clearly defined, detailing responsibilities, documentation, support processes, and timelines.
  • Develop and manage the IT operations budget, identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.
  • Organise the establishment and configuring of training resources for global IT staff as required.

About You

  • Proven experience in IT Service Management.
  • Effective leadership and team management skills to coordinate cross-functional teams and drive collaboration.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of ITIL framework and practices to ensure effective IT operations.
  • Project management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex technical information clearly to various stakeholders.
  • Be able to demonstrate evidence of delivering successful target operating model improvements.
  • Experience of working in technical teams delivering complex solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills and experience of liaising with senior stakeholders to deliver activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify process bottlenecks and implement improvements.
  • Adept at using relevant software tools and platforms for asset management, knowledge base management, project management, and more.

Desirable skills:

  • IT Project Management expertise
  • ITIL Certification
  • In depth knowledge of the agile delivery cycle.
  • Worked with a Managed Service Provider in a previous role.

3.) Internal Auditor

Job Location: Abuja
Job Type: Full-time

About the Role

  • As our diligent and tenacious Internal Auditor, you will deliver an agreed programme of audits across WaterAid and its partner organisations and other ad hoc work and investigations as necessary.
  • WaterAid is committed to ensuring the highest levels of professional competence and financial integrity.
  • The post holder will be expected to meet this commitment through the delivery of an agreed programme of internal audit work, by performing audits across the WaterAid global federation and its partner organisations, supporting management on ad hoc projects, conducting investigations and reviews, as necessary.
  • The post holder will be required to follow and work in accordance with professional auditing standards.

In this role, you'll:

  • Deliver internal audits to provide assurance that financial and other control procedures are appropriate and implemented as designed. Internal audits will cover UK head office functions, other WaterAid Federation Member Countries, regional offices, Country Programmes and partner organisations and will involve the following tasks:-
  • Respond to requests for assistance and advice from management in respect of any matters relating to systems of control, risk management and governance. This will include the following tasks:-
  • Input to the development of the Global Assurance function with:
  • Undertake investigations into suspected fraud, or other financial irregularities, whilst complying with best practice and data protection, confidentiality etc

About You

  • Honesty, integrity, tenacity and sensitivity
  • Experience and understanding of risk-based audit techniques
  • Strong numeric, analytical and financial skills, with an aptitude for budgeting and financial management
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills and ability to juggle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Good IT literacy
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work across different cultures
  • Good understanding of risk management and internal controls
  • Good communication and report writing skills, with either native proficiency or advanced professional proficiency in English
  • Confident to communicate with all levels of management and Trustees
  • A willingness to travel and an ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Although not essential, we also prefer you to have:

  • A professional CCAB (Consultative Committee of Accounting Bodies) accounting qualification or accredited member of the CIIA (Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors)
  • Experience of working in the INGO sector
  • Proficiency of auditing using data analytics techniques
  • Qualifications and/or experience in fraud investigations
  • Knowledge of French or Portuguese
  • And/or knowledge of South Asian or African languages from countries where WaterAid works.
