Role Overview


  • A Civil Engineer plays a vital role in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the physical infrastructure and facilities within an educational institution.
  • They ensure that the school’s buildings and grounds are safe, functional, and conducive to the learning environment. 
  • Requires a combination of engineering expertise, project management skills, and a commitment to creating a safe and efficient educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school administrators and stakeholders to assess the school’s infrastructure needs.
  • Develop long-term infrastructure plans to accommodate the school’s growth and changing requirements.
  • Coordinate with contractors, architects, and other professionals involved in construction projects.
  • Design and Construction (this element will only be partly required in the first 2 years)
  • Prepare architectural and engineering designs for new construction or renovation projects.
  • Oversee the construction process, ensuring compliance with building codes and safety regulations. Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
  • Conduct regular inspections of school buildings, grounds, and utilities to identify maintenance and repair needs.

Qualification, Experience and Knowledge

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience in new facility handover from contractor to client and phased building projects.
  • The ability to understand, translate, and communicate complex building and building services drawings.
  • The ability to think both strategically and pragmatically with strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience working in an educational or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
  • A good understanding of quality control
  • CAD design skills.
