Job Objective


  • To provide Management with timely, complete and accurate financial information for business decision-making process; assume full responsibility to analyse financial status by collecting, monitoring, studying data and recommending actions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides cost analysis process by establishing and enforcing policies and procedures; providing trends and forecasts; explaining processes and techniques
  • Provides timely, accurate and relevant financial information to aid management decision-making.
  • Oversees the effective reporting of monthly management information and reports, quarterly financial statements and company’s performance versus the budget
  • Recommends actions by analyzing and interpreting data and making comparative analyses; studying proposed changes in methods and materials.
  • Improves financial status by analyzing results; monitoring variances; identifying trends and recommending actions to management.
  • Reconciles transactions by comparing and correcting data.
  • Ensures the establishment and implementation of best practice financial activities supported by sound financial discipline in line with the company’s finance policies.
  • Keeps abreast of the company’s financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts.
  • Ensures timely and accurate preparation of the Company’s financial statements in line with relevant statutory requirements and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Manages the Company’s statutory reporting obligations on an accurate and timely basis including production of Annual Reports and Accounts, Half-Year Reports and Quarterly Reports, Shareholder Reporting and Presentations.
  • Ensures all recommendations from the External Auditors’ Management Letters are adequately addressed.
  • Oversees tax planning to optimise the company’s tax position and ensure tax compliance accordingly.
  • Ensures robust planning, budgeting and forecasting processes for the Company.
  • Manages the interface between the Company and external auditors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with financial institutions such as banks, tax advisors, insurance brokers and local tax authorities (at the Federal and State levels).
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Chief Financial Officer or Chief Responsibility Officer from time to time.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years post NYSC work experience in Financial Control, preferably in the financial industry with at least 3 years in managing people.
  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or any other related discipline.
  • Membership of one or more relevant professional bodies (i.e. ICAN, ACCA,) is required.

Skills:

  • Understanding of key financial regulations e.g. Companies Income Tax Act, Value Added Tax, Withholding Tax, Personal Income Tax Act, Pension Reform Act, etc.
  • Must have knowledge of IFRS and insurance accounting
  • Proficiency in IT and computer appreciation
  • Good communications skills (written and oral)
  • Time management and organisation skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Competency in problem solving, cost accounting, statistical analysis, financial planning and strategy, reporting research results etc.

  • Advanced financial and accounting knowledge, including in-depth understanding of finance best practices, international and Nigerian financial and accounting reporting standards
  • Strong knowledge of the insurance industry including regulations, legislations and understanding of trends and developments that might impact on financing or accounting for operations within the industry
  • Must have a high sense of responsibility, accountability, integrity and ethical standards
