Jaza is a solar energy start-up working to power Sub-Saharan Africa. We build solar-powered shops which charge batteries customers use to power their homes. In 2022, we achieved over 1.5 million battery swaps, providing approximately 186,000 people access to clean, affordable energy. We employ women from each community (known as Jaza Stars) to run the service, empowering our team to become leaders, entrepreneurs and drivers of economic growth within their communities. We’ve already successfully entered the Nigerian market, piloted several sites here and will grow to hundreds of locations over the next year. To support this expansion, we’re planning to hire over 200 people over the next 6 months.

We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:


1.) Field Service Engineer

Job Locations: Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo

Position Overview

  • To support this rapid expansion, we're seeking highly skilled Field Service Engineers (FSE) who excel in powering and sustaining energy uptime. In this pivotal role, you'll be instrumental in managing technical operations and swiftly resolving issues at the regional level. As an FSE, your focus will be on maintaining robust technical systems to guarantee uninterrupted power at sites and optimal energy uptime at our hubs.
  • This role requires significant travel within Nigeria, as Jaza is expanding across the South-West states, with 21 hubs currently located in Oyo State.
  • This role involves owning and managing energy uptime, optimising system performance, troubleshooting and repairing technical issues, and driving continuous improvement through data analysis, reporting, and collaboration. The ideal candidate is someone with a strong technical/engineering background, capable of multitasking, taking initiative and working in a fast-paced environment.

Role and responsibilities

  • Ensure energy uptime and power availability at sites by monitoring the system and quickly diagnosing and solving technical issues.
  • Support the setup of new hubs, ensure connectivity, and perform routine hub energy system maintenance. You will either travel to the hubs or remotely troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Document field activities and keep accurate Hub Equipment and product component inventory records.
  • Overseeing the installation and configuration of solar panels, electrical wiring, and associated equipment.
  • Collaborate with Jaza Stars and the data team to diagnose and resolve technical challenges.
  • Regularly prepare reports on hub health and other technical issues, to be submitted to the Regional Service Engineer.

Who you are

  • Proven expertise in and a deep understanding of installing or ensuring uptime of energy systems. Ideally, this includes work with both diesel and solar systems.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of technical/engineering experience within the telecommunications/energy industry or related sectors. We are not particular about your educational background and are more concerned with how much hands-on experience you have.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools and reporting software including MS Office suite and Google products.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and implement solutions to complex technical challenges. Strong commitment to safety and compliance with HSE standards.

2.) Regional Service Engineer

  • To support our rapid expansion, we’re looking for an exceptional Regional Service Engineer (RSE) to manage a team of Field Service Engineers (FSE) as well as our technical operations at the regional level. As an RSE, your focus will be on maintaining robust technical systems to guarantee uninterrupted power at sites and optimal energy uptime at our hubs.
  • This role requires significant travel within Nigeria, as Jaza is expanding and building hubs across the South-West states, with 21 hubs currently located in Oyo State.
  • This position entails directing field service engineers in ensuring energy uptime, optimizing system performance, troubleshooting, and repairing technical issues. Additionally, the role involves actively contributing to continuous improvement through thorough data analysis, reporting, and collaborative efforts. The ideal candidate is someone with a strong technical/engineering leadership background, capable of leading and supervising a dynamic team and working in a fast-paced environment.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the FSEs in executing the setup of new hubs, ensuring seamless connectivity, and conducting regular maintenance on hub energy systems.
  • This role involves reporting directly to the Technical Manager to ensure efficient coordination and adherence to technical protocols.
  • Collate monthly reports and share them with the management team
  • Collaborate with Jaza Stars, Regional Coordinators (RCs), Network Operations Centre (NOC) data team and FSEs to diagnose and resolve technical challenges.
  • Lead and coach FSEs on the best practices through regular training and professional development initiatives.
  • Regularly review reports submitted by the FSEs, on hub energy performance and other technical issues.
  • Prepare and share monthly performance review reports on Power availability

Who you are

  • Strong proven expertise in and a deep understanding of energy and solar systems. We are not particular about any educational background and are more concerned with how much hands-on experience you have.
  • Minimum of 3 - 6 years of technical/engineering leadership experience within the telecommunications/energy industry or other related industries.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and implement solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance with HSE standards.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools and reporting software including MS Office suite.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.

3.) EPC Project Manager

Job Location: Nigeria
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Overview

  • To support this rapid expansion, we’re seeking an exceptional leader in EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) Project Management. As the EPC Project Manager, your primary role is to lead the expansion phase of Jaza's operations. You will be working with all 3rd party contractors to build our hubs in rural or semi-urban locations around the South-West region of Nigeria.
  • This is an in-person role with a preference for candidates based in Lagos or Ibadan.
  • This role may require frequent travel within Nigeria, as Jaza is expanding across the South-West states, with 21 hubs currently located in Oyo State. There will also be a need to work remotely, as this role involves collaborating with various stakeholders virtually.
  • This role presents a unique opportunity to take a leadership role in managing complex EPC projects and play a crucial part in our growth. The ideal candidate is someone with strong experience in project management, contract negotiation, and relationship management, particularly in construction projects or solar installations.

Role and responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire project lifecycle, from the contracting process to implementation, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget & scope.
  • Identify, assess, and proactively manage risks associated with underground transmission and building activities, maintaining a strategic approach to project integrity.
  • Act as the main point of contact for the hub factory, overseeing quality monitoring and ensuring adherence to project specifications. You will also ensure compliance with safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Oversee the procurement process, to ensure timely and cost-effective acquisition of essential materials and services.
  • Create and implement forward-thinking EPC strategies to ensure the smooth execution of solar energy and hub projects, in alignment with Jaza's expansion goals.
  • Act as the primary point of contact to build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders. These include the Solar Installation team, Hub Managers, and other operations & maintenance teams.
  • You will conduct thorough vetting processes to ensure the selection of reliable and trustworthy partners.
  • Lead the contracting process with various contractors, including managing RFQs, analyzing quotes, and negotiating contracts. Work closely with legal support for contract finalization.
  • Recognize, evaluate, and effectively handle project risks with foresight, taking proactive steps to reduce challenges.

Who you Are

  • You have a background and/or experience in Project Management, Construction Management, Solar Installations or other related fields.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a proven track record of successfully leading and managing complex projects.
  • Bonus points if you have a pre-existing network of pre-vetted contractors in the construction or solar industry.
