Job Summary
- The Finance Officer will spearhead all facets of financial management, encompassing corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation.
- Additionally, the role includes tax management, administration, and acting as a consultant for management by conducting comprehensive cost and revenue analyses.
Responsibilities
Management Accounting:
- Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Manage outsourced functions.
- Oversee the operations of the Finance department, establishing an organizational structure conducive to achieving departmental goals and objectives.
- Supervise the accounting operations of Transkredit.
- Ledger proofs and effective monitoring.
- Develop an organizational structure within the accounting department to facilitate the achievement of short-term goals and long-term objectives.
- Manage and mentor junior personnel in the accounting department.
Transaction processing:
- Ensure timely payment of accounts payable.
- Maximize reasonable discounts on accounts payable.
- Promptly collect accounts receivable.
- Complete periodic bank and ledger reconciliations.
- Ensure timely debt payments.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and manage the general ledger for accuracy.
- Manage tax-related matters (VAT, WHT, PAYE), liaising with the company’s tax consultant, auditor, and regulators for efficient tax management.
- Advise and liaise with Operations on transaction postings to ensure the correct GL.
- Call over operational postings for effective monitoring.
Financial Reporting and Budgeting:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts for management and regulators.
- Issue timely and complete financial statements.
- Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report.
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
- Provide for a system of management cost reports.
- Offer financial analyses as needed, particularly for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Ensure that financial reports comply with current accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Publish complete and timely financial statements to company executives, shareholders, and the board.
- Account for any budget variances and report significant discrepancies to management.
- Recommend benchmarks for the measurement of company financial performance goals.
- Responsible for filing quarterly and annual reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Processes:
- Adhere to SLAs and communicates appropriately to internal clients.
- Ensure that all procedures and controls are fully documented, fit for purpose, appropriately communicated and adhered to.
- Ensure procedures are compliant with all relevant regulatory and legal considerations and the team is properly trained to carry out such responsibilities.
- Understand, follow and demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business.
- Oversee customer support processes and organize them to enhance customer satisfaction.
Compliance:
- Provide regulatory reports to the compliance department for rendition.
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
- Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
- Comply with Local, State, and Federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Requirements
- Interested candidates should possess a Bachelor's Degree / Master's Degree with 5 - 8 years of experience.
Key Competence:
- Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting standards- IFRS and IAS
- Strong analytics and problem-solving skills.
- Vast knowledge across the accounting and finance spectrum - Financial, Management, Tax, Audit, and financial investigation.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, and Access).
- Ability to work well in a team and independently.
- Database Management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Energetic with sound decision-making skills.
