Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Strategy:

• Drive the organization’s long-term financial vision and sustainability through strategic budget planning, funding mix, and diversification.
• Oversee financial forecasting, modelling, and resource allocation decisions to optimize financial performance.
• Ensure compliance with global donor requirements, statutory regulations, and financial best practices across all operational regions.
• Develop and maintain effective internal controls; coordinate audits and implement recommendations for improvement.
• Oversee accurate and timely financial reporting for stakeholders, including the Board and donors, ensuring adherence to GAAP and other relevant regulations.
• Manage cash flow planning to ensure availability of funds as needed while overseeing banking and investment relationships to maintain the organization’s fiscal health

Fundraising & Revenue Diversification:

• Work closely with the Fundraising and Business Development Teams to identify gaps between funding and the organizational budget and create strategic fundraising plans and targets.
• Oversee the organization’s investments, ensuring they align with overall financial goals and risk tolerance.
• Develop financial models to showcase the viability and potential return on investment of for-profit ventures, aiding in attracting investors or securing funding.
• Evaluate financial risks associated with for-profit ventures, including market volatility and regulatory changes, while developing strategies to mitigate these risks.
• Assess the financial feasibility of all fundraising initiatives and their potential impact on Pathfinder’s overall financial health.
• Collaborate with leadership to ensure that diverse fundraising initiatives support Pathfinder’s long-term goals and contribute to its sustainability.

Financial Innovation & Ventures:

• Lead the design and execution of financial models for Pathfinder’s social enterprise ventures and engage with investors and strategic partners to explore capital solutions aligned with our mission.
• Develop and execute funding strategies to support innovation initiatives, including securing venture capital or other forms of financing. 
• Allocate capital to support innovation initiatives, ensuring that investments align with strategic objectives
• Track key metrics related to financial performance and innovation, providing insights into the success of new ventures

Financial Accounting, Reporting, and Systems:

• Oversee and continuously improve key components of fiscal operations, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit card expense reporting, month-end close protocols, grants management, and reporting.
• Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial policies and procedures. Safeguard all assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
• Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of fiscal management reporting for Pathfinder staff, Board of Directors, funders, and other key stakeholders.
• Proactively analyze program operating results to identify potential issues and opportunities.
• Review, assess, and optimize financial systems/technology to ensure efficiency and effectiveness as well as compatibility with other organizational systems.

Risk Management, Audit & Compliance:

• Oversee the identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial and operational risks, including the development and implementation of effective risk management strategies and controls to safeguard the organization.
• Provide leadership to the internal audit team, ensuring they have adequate resources for conducting independent internal and external audits, while ensuring that the audit process maintains integrity and accurately reflects the organization's financial position.
• Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, managing the legal function to operate efficiently, compliantly, and strategically to support the overall business goals and to mitigate legal risks

Executive Leadership Team:

• Collaborate with the CEO and Pathfinder Executive Leadership Team in setting and driving organizational vision, define multi-year strategic objectives and operations strategies to support and advance Pathfinder’s country- led strategy.
• Support the Executive Team and the Board of Directors in continuing to build out future growth strategies, financial plans, and approaches to Pathfinder’s Global Operations functions.
• Build and maintain trusting relationships with leadership and team, Board of Directors, partners, and stakeholders.
• Prepare and present consolidated financial/operational dashboards and risk analysis to the Board.
• Serve as a thought partner, offering insights on emerging trends and long-term organizational capacity.

Team Leadership and Development:

• Lead and coordinate the transition of the capacity and capabilities to regions and countries and the development of agile country-led financial governance models.
• Manage and oversee finance and accounting staff to ensure all facets of fiscal operations are carried out with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and in compliance with internal policies and external compliance requirements.
• Mentor and supervise directors and managers across the finance and operations functions.
• Foster a high-performance culture emphasizing adherence to Pathfinder values, equity, and accountability.
• Implement leadership development and succession planning initiatives that foster devolution of and strengthening of capacities within a country-led context with the aim to transition the core part of the Finance and Operations function to Pathfinder regions.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience overseeing finance and operations in complex, international, private-sector, or non-profit settings.
• Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, CFA, or CMA.
• Experience in non-profit senior leadership.
• Demonstrated mastery in managing projects funded by bilateral and multilateral agencies, private sector donors including strong knowledge of compliance requirements.
• Experience formulating and enforcing organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
• Record of accomplishment mentoring diverse teams, building leadership capacity, and fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
• Record of accomplishment of working with or leading impact-driven businesses, or financial strategy in organizations with both non-profit and for-profit arms.

• You will shape and support country offices, sub-partners, and national governments in strengthening their systems and leadership to support the overall well-being of women and girls.
• Reporting directly to the Director Business Development and Partnerships, you will work closely with the Director of Business Development and Partnerships, the Senior Partnership Advisors, and other Senior Technical Advisors to position Pathfinder as a thought leader in institutional capacity strengthening and transformational leadership.
• This includes elevating Pathfinder’s visibility in the global development arena, enhancing partnerships, and contributing to resource mobilization efforts.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Thought Partnership:

• Develop and implement Pathfinder’s capacity-strengthening strategy—designing and producing practical tools, resources, briefs, and guidelines for country offices and partners.
• Co-design and operationalize organizational capacity strengthening strategies with country offices and HQ teams to elevate Pathfinder’s program quality and operational agility.
• Shape Pathfinder’s global positioning through external thought leadership, contributing to evidence, dialogue, and innovation in localization and locally led development.

Program Design & Technical Leadership:

• Lead and support the design of integrated, context-specific institutional development programs that center on improving the overall well-being of women and girls.
• Develop and disseminate evidence-based tools, frameworks, and models to guide capacity strengthening efforts across countries.
• Serve as technical lead on capacity development components in multi-country programs and large-scale partnerships

Capacity Strengthening & Coaching:

• Work alongside Country Directors and leadership teams to identify organizational capacity gaps, develop plans with KPIs,  and co-create solutions.
• Lead the end-to-end capacity assessment process—developing assessment frameworks, tools, and resources; conducting organizational capacity evaluations; and creating tailored capacity-strengthening plans.
• Support sub-grantees, local NGOs, and government counterparts with tailored capacity strengthening packages on leadership, governance, program implementations, and institutional effectiveness interventions.
• Lead training, mentorship, and peer learning platforms to support country-level transformation.

Government & Stakeholder Engagement:

• Collaborate with Pathfinder’s Senior Technical Advisors, Gender and Social Inclusion specialists, and Innovation and Learning teams to document best practices and drive synergies across programming.
• Foster internal cross-learning and integration across thematic and geographic areas.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Development, Public Health, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Development Studies, Business Administration or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in international development with a strong focus on institutional capacity strengthening, governance, or systems transformation.
• Demonstrated experience working with national governments, local NGOs, and sub-partners in designing and implementing large-scale institutional development or public sector strengthening initiatives.
• Familiarity with SRHR programs and cross-sectoral integration in health, education, gender, and social protection.
• Proven ability to influence and engage at senior levels of government, donors, and multilateral organizations.
• Strong experience in proposal design and technical writing for USAID, FCDO, GIZ, BMGF, and other major donors.
• Prior experience in working across multiple countries or regional contexts, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa or South Asia.
• Proven writing and speaking skills using English language.

Preferred Qualifications:

• As the Senior Program Design Advisor and Technical Writer,  you will lead the development of high-quality technical proposals and materials that drive Pathfinder’s business development, organizational learning, and external visibility.
• You will shape and execute proposal strategies designing compelling, donor-responsive approaches grounded in Pathfinder’s technical expertise and strategic priorities.
• Reporting directly to the Director Business Development and Partnerships, you will manage the technical documentation, manage Pathfinder’s language style guide, and create standards, tools, and templates that streamline program design and ensure consistency across our global portfolio.
• In collaboration with country teams, you will build internal capacity, training staff on technical writing, proposal strategy, program design, and technical writing best practices to advance Pathfinder’s country-led approach.

Key Responsibilities
Technical publication development:

• In partnership with relevant content owners, develops, writes, edits, coordinates, and disseminates technical publications, including technical briefs, learning briefs, case studies, and peer-reviewed journal articles. These documents aim to share programmatic experiences and evidence, formulate implementation lessons and recommendations, support business development, and position Pathfinder as a thought leader in SRHR.
• Work closely with the team to support the dissemination of technical publications.

Proposal writing:

• Collaborate with the Business Development and Country teams to develop and write sound technical responses to donor requests for proposals/applications.
• Lead, guide and direct the program design process and strategic framework design, working with technical imputers.
• Develop, write, and edit Pathfinder proposals, demonstrating Pathfinder voice and style and technical familiarity with Pathfinder strategies and approaches.
• Contribute to other proposal-related needs, including editing and writing capability statements, technical reviews, and biographical statements for personnel.
• Serve as the Program Design Lead and primary writer for concept notes and proposals, including drafting theories of change and technical proposal outlines.
• Develop and maintain standards, tools, templates, and resources for program design and proposal writing.

Technical Visibility:

• Work with project teams and country leadership to review project achievements and learnings and identify opportunities for technical visibility.
• Develop positioning strategies, plans, and materials for Pathfinder engagement in major conferences.
• Collaborate with the business development team and country team to identify priority countries for technical briefs that support Pathfinder's business pursuit initiatives.

Program Design: 

• Collaborate with appropriate matrix teams to design the proposal strategy in response to donor requests for proposals/applications.
• Lead strategic framework design through collaborative teamwork, facilitating inputs from relevant teams and country offices.
• Lead the program design process, working with the Technical Writer, to demonstrate Pathfinder voice, style, and technical familiarity with Pathfinder strategies and approaches
• Advise on appropriate potential partners and participate in discussions with partners on their input and roles.
• Facilitate proposal planning meetings leading the group through collective brainstorming sessions to identify win themes, theory of change, and strategic approaches.

Project management:

• Strategically manage technical writing requests and assignments from across the organization, working with project team members, subject matter experts, designers, translators, the communications team, and others, to conceptualize, develop, publish, and disseminate technical publications efficiently and effectively.

Capacity strengthening: 

• Strengthen internal technical writing and program design capacity through both formal training and informal mentorship in technical writing.
• Develop and lead an in-house training program for staff on technical writing, including facilitating a community of practice, mapping of existing technical writing competencies and maintaining a database of skilled technical writers.
• Review, update, and develop new internal technical writing guidance, tools, and templates, including the Pathfinder Style Guide.

Requirements
What You Bring:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics, Social Sciences or a related field, or a combination of education and experience that yields the required competencies.
• 10 years’ experience as a writer/editor, with record of designing and writing successful non-USAID, private foundation, and other donor-funded proposals/applications.
• Advanced knowledge and application of technical writing principles and practices.
• Advanced knowledge and skills in developing project dissemination strategies, including leveraging project dissemination opportunities for donor positioning.
